Gorby3975 takes down the Sunday Million 27/02/2012

Gorby3975 takes down the Sunday Million

Gorby3975 from Russia takes down the Sunday Million and in the process wining a total of $208,783.17

With a fantastic 7,768 people entering, the Pokerstars guarantee of 1 million was well truly smashed leaving a prize pool just over 1.5Million
If there had been any doubts the Sunday Million has yet again established itself as the leading tourney at present in online poker.
The top 1,170 each got a slice of the pie, Henrique Pinho got the furthest of six Pokerstar’s pro’s to make the cash, he busted in 101st.

Crucial hand

With the final table Twiddling down to six, Lynnstrait was sitting comfortable in second position with 19.1 million chips, Gorby3975 was leading the pack with 27.8Million.
Lynnstrait looking for the blinds opened for 1million with 10 5 of diamonds, Gorby3975 on the button flat calls with a pair of deuces, the flop came 7 5 5, Lynnstrait bets out 1,000,000 absolutely delighted with the flop and I presume even more delighted when Gorby3975 re-raised it up to just shy of 4Million, Lynnstrait sly as can be, sets the trap and smoothes call’s the re-raise. A 2 on the turn giving Gorby3975 the full house, Lynnstrait checks and Gorby3975 checks behind. A Jack comes on the river Lynnstrait still thinking he’s good puts out a pot sized bet, Gorby3975 pushes all in, it’s only another 2million and Lynnstrait makes the call. lynnstrait can’t believe his luck but he’s on the rail with a prize of $46,608 to console himself

After puicachamp KK held up against Leanod A5, it was down to heads-up play. Immediately a deal was struck between puicachamp and Gorby3975, the deal left $20,000 in play and within a couple of hands the chips where all in the middle Gorby3795 had KJ and Puicachamp AJ, Puicachamp hand is normally a big favour with odds of 70% – 30% but the poker gods where smiling on Gorby3975 when the K that hit the flop was good enough for him to take first place. Congratulations

FULL TILT DEBACLE

Doyleism of the Day: “When you are up your friends know who you are, when you are down you know who your friends are”.

Monday 20th February 2012

There is really no reason to completely rehash all of the stuff about the Full Tilt debacle. Everyone knows MOST of the facts and are familiar with the proceedings. I feel I was privy to things lots of people weren’t because my best friend Jack Binion, was interested in buying FT and did a lot of Due diligence. I want to stress that anything I say isn’t written in stone and is just my opinion. This is America and everyone can believe what they want.

Was FT guilty of gross negligence and terrible mismanagement? Yes of course but what happened and why? It’s my understanding that an unknown person to the poker world Ray Bitar, was a very good friend to FT’s largest stock holder Chris Ferguson. Upon Fergusons recommendation Bitar was named CEO and put his name on all the documents, BANK accounts, different corporations, etc.

FT did an amazing job of advertising and marketing under the supervision of Bitar and Howard Lederer, Lederer held the position of President of FT and was very instrumental in helping FT’s remarkable growth. But remember, this was 2008 and Lederer retired from management after a year. Bitar remained in power and knew all of the inner workings of FT.

There was a board of directors, I’m not sure exactly who was on it but it was FT stockholders. The bottom line was they were poker players, not corporate executives. I can tell you for sure that poker players including myself are terrible business men. Why didn’t they step in and hire a top professional person to supervise and direct business? No one has ever answered that to my knowledge.

The site under Bitars directions started paying the stockholders huge dividends as the business grew. So the answer to the last question is that if you were a stockholder, would you question the management of a company that was sending you hundreds of thousands of dollars each month? I doubt you would, I know I wouldn’t, I’d think life is good!

Exactly how FT lost their cash is not clear to me. Something about processors, electronic checks they couldn’t cash, etc. They lost the WAY to get the money to the site. Bitar was in power and obviously made some bad decisions. He got into financial trouble and instead of telling his stockholders, thought that he could work his way out of the trouble. So, he continued sending out the large dividends to the people giving the illusion everything was alright. Bitar who is obviously a very smart guy might have worked things out but Black Friday happened and everything came to the surface.

Now the government froze all the bank accounts and took all available cash from the company. All of the stockholders said they knew nothing of the financial problems. I think most of them told the DOJ they had no knowledge of the condition of FT and the risk of perjury to a government agency would strongly suggest they ARE telling the truth.

Im not defending anyone nor am I wanting to persecute anyone. The question of how and why may never be explained to everyone’s satisfaction. It seems inconceivable that the board of directors or some of the major stockholders didn’t investigate the affairs of a billion dollar company. It looks like Bitar, Ferguson and Lederer are taking all the heat. Ferguson had a lot of faith in his friend Bitar. It is widely perceived that Howard Lederer was still heavily involved in running the company even though he retired two or three years earlier. I’ve been in contact with Lederer the last few months. When someone I’ve known for years, trusted and respected looks me dead in the eye and says he didn’t know about the financial problems, call me a big old Texas sucker because I will believe them. I have not talked to Ferguson but I understand he says what Lederer told me, that they didn’t know. There are at least 4 stockholders that own more of FT than Lederer. Where were they? The guilt should be shared IF its true Lederer and Ferguson didn’t know of the financial mess.

The main question I’ve had through all of this is where was the Chief Financial Officer? Even though I had nothing to do with the management when I was the spokesperson for the internet poker site Doylesroom, I know there was a strict CFO in place who made sure there was 110% of the players money in a separate account from the operating account. So when Doylesroom closed there was immediate cash available to pay the players. Why didn’t FT board of directors and stockholders realize THERE wasn’t any financial responsibility in the company?

Another unanswered question is where was the Aldernay Gaming Commission? They issued FT a license and for sure they had the responsibility to see that the players finds were secure. Before Doylesroom closed they were trying to get a license from Malta and in order to get approved by them, funds had to be in place to cover the players accounts.

I remember FT put out a statement to the effect that they are working on a deal to sell the company and pay the players their balances. That deal is still being pursued so what else is there to say? If you have never been involved with a FEDERAL investigation, you probably don’t understand. If you were looking at going to jail and your lawyers keep telling you to remain silent, would you say anything? When the government says “anything you say can and will be used against you”, it means exactly that. All of the Federal Agencies have proved it over and over. Regardless of what you say or don’t say. They are going to do a thorough and complete investigation. I believe the truth will finally come out when the DOJ signs off on the case.

I’m no lawyer but I remember from my college years the word intent was a very important word. If anyone thinks that FT was a “Global Ponzi Scheme”, they might want to buy some Oceanside property in KANSAS. FT was a huge success and paying the stockholders millions of dollars each month. Can any rational person think they destroyed all this by using unauthorized moneys? Of course not, so there was no intent of wrong doing for years. Then when all the money problems came about, the CEO of the company tried to salvage his mistake by continuing to pay the huge dividends. Ray Bitar for sure knew about the cover up and has to answer for his actions. You can believe or disbelieve the fact that Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer knew about the problems. I know the majority of the poker world wants blood and believe they did know. I believe time will tell us the answer to that.

As far as I know, every member and stockholder of FT was my friend before Black Friday. Despite all the terrible mistakes and mismanagement I know the intent to defraud wasn’t part of their plan. Despite a LAW suit against FT by a major stockholder that killed potential sales, despite the fact they tried to salvage their company by continuing to operate outside the US, they are the same faces as before.

I don’t want to take a baseball bat and crush their grapes and I don’t want to keep them from rejoining the poker world. Where do you stop the level of responsibility? I don’t know, I only know all of the FT people were my friends and they still are.

I also recall I read in the most widely read book in the world where it says something like this, “Let someone with no guilt cast the first stone,”

May the flop be with you!
Doyle Brunson

Doyle is dead wrong about Full Tilt Poker

In a recent blog post, one of poker’s all-time greats offered up his thoughts on why the poker world should go easy on Howard Lederer and Chris Ferguson. Judging by his blog post Doyle Brunson feels the poker world is being a little too hard on the Full Tilt higher-ups, saying that there word, and his years of knowing them was good enough for him.

Now, while I respect Brunson’s opinions regarding the character of these people, just because you don’t feel there was “intent” to cause the current fiasco that is Full Tilt Poker, doesn’t mean you can simply wipe your hands of it either. Just as a well-intentioned chef using spoiled meat, or cross-contaminating food, isn’t intending to harm his patrons, he is still responsible for the eventual outcome. Ignorance is fine, but when your ignorance causes a great deal of harm there is a certain amount of responsibility that must be accounted for.

And I’m not so sure that the current mess Full Tilt Poker finds itself in is all from ignorance! While I think everyone who played online poker realized there was some risk involved (which is why I don’t feel Full Tilt Poker, or any other online poker room, owes the players more than their balances) when it comes to the owners and the faces of the company there is a larger debt to be paid, and I’m not talking financially, I’m talking about their reputations. But before I get to that Full Tilt’s defenders need to answer the following questions:

* How can Board of Director members not be aware of the $140 million shortfall from the eChecks debacle?

* How could Board members not care to look into the company’s books EVER? Especially after payment processors they used were being arrested!

* How could one guy, (Ray Bitar) keep all of the other owners in the dark as to what was really taking place?

* As Daniel Negreanu asked, how could they possibly not know the company was insolvent after Black Friday and keep accepting deposits from players across the globe; did they simply not care check at this point? Nobody received a Dividend check after April, and the company was still claiming all was well in June.

* Does Doyle really think Howard and Chris were kept completely in the dark by Ray Bitar? These weren’t simply shareholders who met at an annual meeting, these are men who founded and ran this company from the outset!

Forget about the money owed, Howard, Chris, and the rest of the Full Tilt Poker Board members need to answer for the lives they ruined. Everyone talks about the millions Daniel Cates had online, but what about the thousands upon thousands of poker players who had their lives utterly destroyed even though they have far less money locked-up at the site.

What about the mid-stakes grinder who had 75% of his roll on Full Tilt, how is this person supposed to make the transition to live poker with a paltry bankroll? What about the store clerk who built up a $500 bankroll by playing penny-limit PLO and was going to use that money to put a down-payment on an engagement ring for his girlfriend, or take her on a vacation?

I’m with Daniel Negreanu on this one; Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, and the other Board members should never show their faces in a poker room again, even if players are repaid 100%. The repayment is their commitment from Full Tilt Poker to make things right from the business’ perspective; it’s not going to make things right for the individuals who were behind this catastrophe.

Would Doyle welcome these people back into the poker world with open arms? If so, then my questions to him are: Would you trust these people to open a new online poker site if they gave you their word they had learned from their mistakes? Would you go into business with them? Would you play and endorse their new site? I can’t imagine he would answer yes to any of these!

Basically what Full Tilt Poker did –for at least a year– was blow smoke up the ass of the poker world. Anyone contacting the company received a response claiming how their money was 100% safe and secure and kept separated from other funds. We now know this is utter BS, but at the time people looked at the faces of the site and said, “Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, and the rest of Team Full Tilt would never lie to my face.” Doyle can claim Howard left the company in an executive role years ago, but he never did anything to dissuade the poker world from believing he was still heavily involved (which he had every opportunity to do).

Even if Doyle is 100% right and there was no malfeasance by anyone other than Ray Bitar: These men knew that their names and reputations was a huge part of the appeal of Full Tilt, and if they allowed the site to use them in this way they are astoundingly stupid. When your reputation is on the line you should make sure all the company’s ducks are in a row, and not take someone at their word: If you don’t do so than you are just as responsible.

For lack of a better analogy, they were the worst roommate in history: They told you how trustworthy they were and did everything right for a year, but after falling behind in rent by three months, relying on their reputation to get them by, they ripped you off while you were at work and left town! Only in the case of Full Tilt Poker they left a promissory claiming their current struggles and how they would eventually repay you; just give them some time to sort it out.

Repaying the debt isn’t going to erase what you did, it will only make it right from a financial perspective. Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson and the rest of the Full Tilt Poker Board Members and Management should be absolutely embarrassed at what they let transpire under their watch. Doyle can try to scapegoat Ray Bitar in defense of his friends, but in the end his friends were right there with their hands in the cookie jar extracting millions from the poker economy –whether they were doing it deliberately or with blinders on doesn’t really matter

Dave798111 takes down Super Tuesday

Time for another session of the popular Super Tuesday tournament on PokerStars, as a field of 433 players easily smashed the recently raised $300,000 guaranteed prize pool. The final 54 players earned a piece of the $433,000 prize pool. This week’s winner would come from Australia, as a five-way deal was negotiated at the final table as Dave “Dave798111″ Allan earned all the chips to walk away the champion.

The final table started with blinds at 2,400/4,8000 with an ante of 600. During the first ten hands not much happened, but that changed as a pair of eliminations happened in just four hands. PiS.Toto was the first to fall, earning $7,187.80. Tudlenudle opened the action with a min-raise to 9,600. PiS.ToTo re-raised from the small blind all in for 54,758 as Tudlenudle called. PiS.ToTo turned over J♣J♥ as Tudlenudle was behind with A♣T♥. PiS.ToTo stayed in front on the K♦4♠2♥ flop. The turn brought the 3♠, giving Tudlenudle seven outs to win the hand, and it was the 5♥ to make a straight, sending PiS.Toto straight to the rail.

Ari “UhhMee” Barer has won millions online, and was looking to add another five-figure score to their long list of results. Unfortunately, Barer was short-stacked coming into the final table, eliminated just after PiS.ToTo in eighth place, cashing for $9,742.50. Left with 26,012 chips, Barer shoved from UTG with K♥9♦. Peter “twirlpro” Turmezey quickly called with A♦9♠ as the other players folded. The board ran out Q♣5♥2♠4♥6♠, leaving seven players in contention.

Play slowed down for a few minutes with no extreme short stacks remaining as the blinds increased to 3,200/6,400 with each player anteing 800. Tudlenudle started the final table second in chips, but a decision to get into a raising battle with yosef12 came at an inopportune time for the biggest pot of the final table:

Two hands later, yosef12 picked up the rest of Tudlenudle’s chips. The hand started with danidindani min-raising to 12,800 as yosef12 called. Tudlenudle jammed for 154,466 chips as danidindani folded as yosef12 called. Once again yosef12 was ahead, this time they held T♥T♠ as Tudlenudle held a smaller pair: 9♣9♠. The board runs out A♥8♣6♥7♦A♦, giving yosef12 the checkmark, sending Tudlenudle out in seventh. The player from the Czech Republic earned a payday of $14,072.50, much smaller than they expected when the final table commenced.

Another player likely disappointed in their finishing position was yosef12, earning $18,402.50 in sixth place. It becomes even more discouraging for the player from Israel when you realize they were chip leader with six players left. The first blow was when danidindani doubled through with A-K against pocket eights to double up. Next to receive a double-up was twirlpro when their A-K dominated yosef12′s A-Q. Se7enTr3y scooped up the last of the former chip leader’s stack. The blinds were now at 4,500/9,000 with an ante of 1,125. Yosef12 shoved for 55,384 as Se7enTr3y called from the big blind. Yosef12 was flipping for their tournament life with A♣8♣ as Se7enTr3y held 2♦2♠. Chances of doubling up greatly decreased on the Q♠Q♦2♥ flop, giving Se7enTr3y a full house. The 3♥ on the turn meant yosef12 was drawing dead as the 6♣ completing the hand, leaving a field of five.

A lengthy discussion of a deal followed, with the PokerStars host-provided deal figures turned down. However, some players decided to move around some money and all players would agree to the following figures with $6,000 going to the eventual winner:

Se7enTr3y: 652,111 – $58,467.48
dave79811: 505,745 – $50,686.81
danidindani: 457,221 – $47,993.49
leguito: 313,790 – $45,000.00
twirlpro: 236,133 – $41,000.42
Peter “twirlpro” Turmezey was dispatched in fifth place on the first hand after agreeing to a deal. Dave798111 opened with a raise to 18,000 as twirlpro moved in for 235,008 chips with 7♦7♠. Dave79811 called with A♠K♦ and the race was on. Turmezey was still ahead on the Q♥4♥3♠ flop. The lead was short-lived as the K♣ on the turn and A♥ on the river left twirlpro spinning, pocketing a $41,000.42 score.

Renato “leguito” Almeida finished in fourth for $45,000.00 as dave798111 came out on top of another coinflip. Blinds are now at 5,000/10,000 with an ante of 1,250 as dave798111 raised to 20,000. Leguito moved in for 271,145 chips with K♣Q♠ as dave798111 called with 8♣8♠. The board ran out 6♥4♣2♠2♥ T♦, leaving a trio of hopefuls.

Over thirty minutes of three-handed play moved dave798111 further in front, putting Se7enTr3y and danidindani under pressure to catch up, and it was Se7enTr3y running out of chips as danidindani was the beneficiary. The blinds moved up to 7,000/14,000 with an ante of 1,850 as Se7enTr3y raised to 28,000 with 9♠9♥. Danidindani re-raised to 70,000 with K♦K♥ and Se7enTr3y shipped their remaining 259,086 chips into the center as Se7enTr3y called. The two-outer needed by Se7enTr3y wasn’t coming as the virtual dealer dealt the following five cards: A♣J♣2♣8♥ 3♠, placing Se7enTr3y the biggest payday – $58,467.48 for their third place finish.

Heads-up play started with Dave798111 holding a nearly two to one edge over danidindani that was never threatened over the twenty minutes the duel lasted. The only hand featuring an all-in and call was the final hand as the blinds now stood at 8,000/16,000 with an ante of 2,000. Here’s how that hand played out:

Dave “dave798111″ Allan’s straight on the river gives him the win for this week’s Super Tuesday, earning $56,686.11. Danidindani sees a boost to their bankroll on PokerStars by $47,993.49.

2/21/12 Super Tuesday Final Table Results:

*1st: Dave “dave798111″ Allan – $56,686.81
*2nd: danidindani – $47,993.49

Puis Heinz World Champion 2011

Pius Heinz World Champion 2011

22 year old German poker play Pius Heniz Won the Main of the World Series of poker coming through a field of 6,865 and walked away with a cool $8,715,638.

On Tuesday last the final three poker players Pius Heniz, Ben Lamb and Martin Staszko played it down to see who would be declared world champion of 2011. After over another six grueling hours of play, Pius Heinz emerged as the champion.

Ben Lamb early exit

On the very first hand of three handed play at the 2011 World Series of Poker main event, Ben Lamb lost a massive coin-flip with KJ against Stasko’s pocket 77’s and was left crippled. He busted a few hands later in third place, earning $4,021,138 for his efforts.

Staszko Impressive

Overall, Staszko surprised everyone on Tuesday when he just flat out took Heinz to task. It appeared numerous times that Heinz was down and out, but to Heinz credit, he stuck around and caught his spot to make his comeback.
In the end, I think Staszko’s inexperience caught up to him. I can’t totally fault him on the flip hand he doubled up Heinz on, but his final hand was clearly misplayed based on his style. Either event, Staszko played very well and should be proud of his 2nd place finish with a cool$5,433,086 .
Pius Heinz will make a brilliant ambassador for poker in my view. I don’t know the guy personally, but the combination of his play and his apparent good nature should make for a player that most fans should be drawn to. Not surprisingly, he is signed with Pokerstars and will clearly be the marquee draw on the site for a while.
The 2011 WSOP is officially in the books and has been a record setting event. Despite the naysayers, the WSOP continued to prove that they are elite poker organization in the world. We are now just six months away until the 2012 WSOP kicks off. Time to start making your plans.

Pius Heinz Makes final three at World Series of Poker Main Event 2011

We’ve come to expect a show at the World Series of Poker final table. Frozen in ice since July.  The November Nine format is then thawed out to return months later for an explosive showdown. It’s still held in Las Vegas at the Rio, but action shifts to the Penn and Teller theatre, allowing for big crowds, a raucous atmosphere and excitement to send the temperature soaring.

Yesterday was no different. Nine players returned for their shot at the $8,711,956 first prize and title of world champion.

Here is how the three remaining players will sit down when we play down to a winner tomorrow

Pius Heinz, Germany, , 107,800,000
Ben Lamb, USA, 55,400,000
Martin Staszko, Czech Republic, 42,700,000

And here are the final table payouts so far:

4 Matt Giannetti, $3,012,700
5 Phil Collins, $2,269,599
6 Eoghan O’Dea, $1,720,831
7 Bob Bounahra, $1,314,097
8 Anton Makiievskyi, $1,010,015
9 Sam Holden, $782,115

With more than half the chips in play, then, Heinz is in the box seat to return another PokerStars world champion, following in the recent footsteps of Jonathan Duhamel, Joe Cada and Peter Eastgate.

But if he fails to attain the biggest crown in poker, he can be proud of his immense final table performance so far – while the $4,021,138 he’s already locked up in prize money will be a rather pleasant consolation.
